Spring Bud Collar Tutorial

£4.00

I have put together a tutorial (in pdf format) for this pretty wire wrap collar. There are instructions for two variations and I'm sure that you can come up with many more ideas once you have learnt the basics!

This is an intermediate level project and assumes some basic skills in wire wrapping, such as coiling wire and using round nosed pliers to make spirals. 39 steps and 35 photographs in total. I used silver plated copper, but you could use copper, silver or gold filled wire if you wish.

Materials required - first collar

  • .61 metres (2 feet) 1.2 mm (16 gauge) round wire, soft or half hard
  • 1.5 metres (5 feet) .8mm (20 gauge) round wire, soft
  • 6.7 metres (22 feet) .4mm (26 gauge) round wire, soft
  • 1 oval bead, approximately 50mm (2 inches) long, with a 1.5 to 2mm hole
  • 1 round bead 6 – 8mm diameter, with a 1.5 to 2mm hole

Tools Required

Round nose pliers, needle nose or chain nose pliers, chasing hammer, steel block, flush cutters, round pencil or pen

Materials required - second collar

  • .61 metres (2 feet) 1.2 mm (16 gauge) round wire, soft or half hard
  • 1.5 metres (5 feet) .8mm (20 gauge) round wire, soft
  • 9 metres (24 feet) .4mm (26 gauge) round wire, soft
  • Selection of 4mm to 6mm round beads, 16 in total
  • 1 round bead 6 – 8mm diameter

Tools Required

Round nose pliers, needle nose or chain nose pliers, chasing hammer, steel block, flush cutters, round pencil or pen

This tutorial is reasonably easy and quick to complete. I have given it an intermediate rating because you will need to know how to coil wire, but I doubt that a beginner would have any problems completing it.
